Troop Patrols

Troop Patrols

The troop is divided into patrols of about 8 boys each to give the Scout a chance to do things and have experiences he could not have in a large group where he is just one of many. There are currently five patrols: Racoons, Stags, Eagles, Pedros, and Ventures.
Each Patrol elects a Patrol Leader and an Assistant Patrol Leader. The patrols will have an opportunity to take care of patrol business during the troop meetings. In addition, the Patrol Leader Council (PLC) meets each month. Each Patrol has an Assistant Scoutmaster assigned to help the Patrol Leader and to work with the boys.
New Scouts are placed in existing patrols, with a buddy when possible, and the Troop Guide assigned to that patrol and patrol members help the new Scout learn the skills for rank advancement. The goal of the troop is for each new Scout to reach the rank of First Class within one year.
The Venture Crew operates like a patrol in some respects (e.g. dues, membership, advancement, etc.). It is composed of older Scouts (14 and above) who have attained Star, held troop leadership positions, and earned certain merit badges. This group also operates under the guidance of an Assistant Scoutmaster and participates in troop activities, but does its own planning for additional activities suited to older Scouts in terms of experience, abilities, and desires. Service to the troop and community is an integral part of the Venture Crew's activities.
