What Troop 409 is all about

ABOUT TROOP 409

Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 409 of Albuquerque, New Mexico! The following information is designed to acquaint you with our troop. Troop 409 has been in existence for approximately 37 years since it was first chartered in 1971. We are members of the Great Southwest Council, Sandia District, and we currently boast a membership of about 45 boys. Troop 409 has activities for boys of all ages including New Scout and Venture programs. Please feel free to contact any of our members and ask about us.
The purpose of Troop 409 and Scouting is for the boys to have fun while they are learning about leadership responsibilities, teamwork, citizenship, first aid, camping skills, and experiencing wholesome activities that they might not otherwise have the opportunity to do. The troop functions under the leadership of the boys with the guidance of the Scoutmaster and several Assistant Scoutmasters. Having the boys lead places the purpose of Scouting into immediate practice. At times, you will notice that within this structure there appears to be a weakness. Sometimes the planning and execution of events does not measure up to "adult" standards. However, this structure provides the basic strength of Scouting for it teaches the boys through doing and they are able to critique the activity afterwards and learn from the effort. The Scouting experience will help lay a strong foundation for adulthood.
