The Outdoor Program

The Outdoor Program

The outdoor program is a key method in meeting the objectives of Scouting and since Scouts always find this aspect fun and exciting, it's an absolute must. If you take the "outing" out of "Scouting", you don't have much left. Troop 409 hikes and camps about 10 to 12 times per year. Scouts are required to wear uniforms to and from a campout, but are not required to wear it at all times during the campout. Therefore, they should bring other sufficient items of clothing including sturdy shoes or boots. See your Scoutmaster Staff about desirable personal camping gear. The Handbook also has a list of equipment, although official "BSA" items are not a requirement. Remember, these items do not need to be purchased at one time; some can be borrowed, some can be rented, and some make excellent gifts during the year.
